Are lab-created gemstones real?
Yes, lab-created gemstones are real stones; they share the exact same chemical, physical, and optical properties as their naturally mined counterparts. The only twist is where they come from: they are grown in a managed laboratory setting instead of being pulled from the earth.
For example, a lab-grown sapphire is made of aluminium oxide, the same as a mined sapphire. Since the crystal structure matches, you get the same hardness, brilliance, and overall durability as you would from a natural stone. Still, the pricing is usually much gentler, and they miss the “geological scarcity” that natural gems carry. That means their long-term resale value tends to be far weaker even though the stones themselves are physically identical.
