Can peridot form in meteorites?

Peridot is one of the few gemstones that can end up forming in outer space, and sometimes it is found inside pallasite meteorites. This weird little extraterrestrial form of peridot is incredibly rare, and it is highly prized by gem collectors.

Pallasite meteorites are made of an iron-nickel matrix that has olivine crystals embedded in it; when those olivine pieces are gem-worthy, they get called peridot. The space-borne peridot matches the same chemical makeup as peridot mined on Earth, but it often carries unusual trace elements and very distinctive needle-like inclusions. Because the material is scarce and it is hard to facet meteorite-sourced pieces without them shattering, these extraterrestrial gems can command a massive premium.
