How can I learn gemmology?
You can learn gemmology by jumping into formal, globally recognised certification tracks from respected institutions like the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A).
If you are starting, it helps to read solid industry textbooks, visit local gem and mineral shows and take beginner online courses. That said, to become truly capable, you need a lot of in-person practice for recognising natural and synthetic stones, using specialised tools such as microscopes, refractometers and polariscopes. Because of that, in-person practical lab courses are essential for a real career in gemmology.
