How durable is citrine?

Citrine brings a pretty reasonable resilience; you see a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it works for most jewellery pieces, but it still can be marked by scratches from everyday gritty dust, over time, maybe a bit more than people expect.

Since it’s a quartz variety, citrine is tough enough for pendants, studs, and occasional wear rings. Yet it’s best to keep it away from truly harder gemstones like sapphires or diamonds, tucked in a separate spot inside the jewellery box; otherwise, you’ll get small surface scuffing. Also, long-term exposure to strong direct sunlight can make its bright tone fade a little, sometimes over many years.
