Yes, a chipped emerald can often be put back into shape by a skilled lapidary, through careful repolishing or maybe a light recutting of the damaged zone. But since emeralds are naturally brittle and often full of inclusions, the work still has a real chance of triggering more fractures.

To repair an emerald, you really need very specialised cutting methods to reduce physical stress on the stone’s weak points, which are often referred to as jardin. Depending on how deep the chip actually is, the gem may lose visible carat weight, and it might also need a full reshaping just to keep its visual balance. After the recutting step, the emerald will usually require professional re-oiling, or it may be treated with fracture-filling resins, in order to bring back clarity and a fresh surface lustre.
