How durable is tanzanite?
Tanzanite is kind of delicate, has a Mohs hardness of around 6 to 7, and that perfect cleavage thing, so it becomes very vulnerable to scratching, chipping, and even breaking when you put it under physical pressure.
Even though people love its stunning purplish blue look, tanzanite isn’t a hard-wearing stone. It should never be cleaned with ultrasonic methods; it should not face extreme temperature swings or be taken into rigorous physical activity. Jewellers tend to recommend that tanzanite be set in protective settings and worn mostly as a dress ring, as a pendant, or in earrings rather than treated like a daily engagement piece.
